Touch Rugby - Every Thursday

Next Session - Thursday 16th July

Touch rugby is a non-contact, fast-paced variation of rugby where players
score by touching opponents instead of tackling.

Touch Rugby – Everyone Welcome!

Looking for a fun way to get fit, meet new people, or give rugby a go? Join us every Thursday evening at Greenwich Rugby Club from 7:30pm – 9:30pm for our weekly touch rugby sessions.

Touch rugby is a non-contact version of the game that's perfect for all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Whether you've never picked up a rugby ball before, you're looking for a new way to stay active, or you're an experienced player preparing for the season ahead, you'll be made to feel welcome.

Our senior squad use these sessions as part of their preparation for the 2026/27 season, but the sessions are open to everyone.

You'll enjoy a mix of fun games, fitness, and rugby skills in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Never played before? No problem! Our experienced coaches and players will help you every step of the way. You'll quickly learn the basics, build your confidence, and before long you'll be making great passes, scoring tries, and enjoying everything the game has to offer.

Come along, bring a friend, and discover why touch rugby is one of the best ways to stay fit, make new friends, and have fun.

All abilities welcome – just turn up and join in!

Basic Rules

  • Teams and Players: Typically, two teams of six players compete on the field

  • No Contact: Physical tackling is replaced by a touch, usually with one hand, to stop the attacking player.

  • Six Touches: Each team has six touches to try and score a try (similar to a touchdown). After the sixth touch, possession is turned over to the opposing team.

  • Roll Ball: After a touch, the player rolls the ball backward with their foot to restart play, and defenders must retreat 5 meters.

  • Scoring a Try: A try is scored when a player crosses the opponent’s try line and places the ball on the ground with control.

  • Substitutions: Teams can make unlimited substitutions during stoppages.

  • Offside and Penalties: Defending players must retreat the required distance, and penalties are given for offside or foul play.
